Vancouver, BC, May 16, 2016 – The Société de développement économique de la Colombie-Britannique (SDÉ) announces the launch of the Essential Oils Distillation Économusée® at Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm. As a new member of the international brand, they join a growing network of Économusée® certified sites in British Columbia. The official launch was held on Thursday at the farm in Kelowna B.C.
SDÉ was pleased to share a letter from the Honourable Norm Letnick, Minister of Agriculture. He noted that “by joining the ÉCONOMUSÉE® network, Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm has chosen to exhibit its passion to create pure and quality botanical products. As Minister of Agriculture and MLA for Kelowna-Lake Country, I am pleased that the McFadden family is eager to share its knowledge on cultivating lavender and to hold workshops on how to use the flavourful plants around the house.”
Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm, owned and operated by the McFadden family since the 1960s, has deep roots in the agriculture of the region. Now cultivating a wide variety of annual and perennial herbs, this thriving agrifood business has turned it focus to the ancient art of distilling to capture pure essential oils. They handcraft small batch natural products for body care, culinary blends and the home – including their award winning Pure Lavender Essential Oil.
Visitors are encouraged to learn about traditional and innovative techniques for growing, harvesting and distilling – they can tour the delightful gardens, sample products and take interactive workshops.
“The commitment by Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm to develop new sustainable natural product lines and to share their extensive knowledge, is an important contribution to the vitality of cultural tourism and economic health of the region,” says Donald Cyr, Executive Director at SDÉ.
